Board approves tobacco-free policy and reviews other required policies

Superintendent presented a package of new and revised board policies for review; the items will be formally recommended for adoption next month after first reading. For the tobacco policy, the board moved from first reading to adoption after the district rewrote the language following a poor grade from the Ohio Department of Health. "The Ohio Department of Health gave us an F on our tobacco policy. So we had it rewritten so that we should get an A next year," the superintendent said. The motion to adopt the tobacco-free policy passed on roll call.
Board members flagged the policy review process and noted formal adoption of other reviewed policies will be considered at the next regular meeting.
