The Crown Point City Council voted Aug. 3 to adopt Ordinance 2026-08-19, amending Chapter 157 of the city code to revise soil erosion and sediment controls for sites smaller than one acre and align local rules with a state change (Public Law 150).
Jared of Earth Engineering told the council the state law prevents communities from being more restrictive than state standards for sites under one acre and said the changes mainly tweak language so smaller sites need not provide the same monitoring plans required of larger disturbances. "Basically said a community can't be more restrictive, than the state on-site smaller than 1 acre," he said, and added that the city retains enforcement authority through illicit-discharge provisions. The council made a motion for adoption, conducted a roll call with affirmative votes recorded, and the motion passed.
Council members asked practical questions about discharges during heavy rains and were told inspections and best-practice controls remain enforceable; an IDEM audit is expected in September, which was cited as a reason to align local language now.
