Blue Star Mothers take top prize as Crown Point honors Fourth of July parade winners

The Crown Point City Council recognized the winners of the city’s Fourth of July parade during its Aug. 3 meeting, with the Blue Star Mothers of America named first-place winner.
Diana, a member of the parade committee, told the council the event drew about 148 entries this year and credited volunteers, local businesses and organizers for an expanded turnout. “This year, as you stated, we had a bigger and better parade for 250th year, and we had 148 parade entries,” she said.
The committee announced a tie for third place between an Emmy Dance roaring-twenties entry and a Boston Tea Party-themed float by Café Fresco and Tradewinds; St. Matthias (listed as the national parks entry) took second place. Diana said the committee also selected awards for “most patriotic” (a high-school art division tribute) and “most creative” (the Boston Tea Party entry). She thanked named volunteers Tom, Kathy and Jill and recognized organizers Chuck and Sherry Small Jan for their planning work. The council presented trophies and thanked participants.
