Trustee discussion and a staff presentation led to approval of a resolution establishing a credit- and debit-card acceptance and convenience-fee policy. Lisa, presenting the item, said the measure is intended to ensure "the actual cost of processing a debit or credit card payments are covered by the users rather than subsidized by all the taxpayers." She noted the attorney prepared language that would allow a 5% maximum but that typical municipal practice and vendor averages are around 3%.
Lisa explained the village will notify stakeholders through website postings, water-bill notices and signage at payment locations and that technical work with vendors means the fee will not go into effect immediately. Trustees voted to approve the resolution; staff will return with implementation timing once vendor configuration is complete.
