Board approves MOU assigning two state-line bridges to Freeborn County

The Worth County Board approved a memorandum of understanding with Freeborn County that, according to staff, designates two state-line bridges as 100% owned, maintained and inspected by Freeborn. Staff member (S2) described the MOU as an FHWA filing and recommended the county sign and submit it so Freeborn can report to federal authorities.
S2 summarized the terms: “Freeborn owns those bridges. They're a 100% owned, 100% maintained by them, and a 100% inspected by them.” The board moved to submit the MOU and voted in favor. S2 cautioned the county might receive cost-share requests if a bridge requires replacement in the next one to three years; the staff explanation emphasized Minnesota counties sometimes have more robust bridge funding mechanisms than Iowa.
