Treasurer reports events, grant applications and required cybersecurity evaluation

At the Sept. 24 meeting the town treasurer reported several upcoming community events and grant efforts and warned council of a required cybersecurity review for utility systems. The treasurer announced a flu-shot clinic on Oct. 11, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., said the Halloween Fall Festival had 23 confirmed vendors and $2,250 in donations from area businesses, and noted WV Outdoor is donating a billboard advertisement.
The treasurer told council she will be attending continuing education on public-records (FOIA) requests this week. The minutes also record that two Homeland Security grant applications are in process (one for license-plate readers and another for Michigan Avenue Park updates) and that the WV Public Service Commission notified the town it will require a cybersecurity evaluation of water, sewage and billing systems; scheduling of that evaluation is in progress. The minutes do not specify a cost cap for the cybersecurity evaluation.
