The Horry County Zoning Board approved a minor setback variance for a proposed garage at 1935 Raccoon Lane, Myrtle Beach, allowing the new garage wall to continue the existing house line. Applicant Ed Hawarnick said the original house was built 6 inches short of the required 10-foot setback and asked to match that line for the new garage.
Hawarnick told the board, “Again, just the house was built that way. And we just like to follow the line of that the house… Pretty much straightforward.” No audience opposition was recorded and board members voted to approve the request with staff-recommended conditions.
Why it mattered: The approval lets the owner add an attached garage while maintaining the existing building alignment; staff recommended standard conditions and noted the lot’s historic compliance issues.
