Village reports water-plant shutdown, plans to rehab Well No. 5 and seek new spring source

At the Dec. 18 meeting, the village reported an equipment failure at the water treatment plant and outlined next steps for capacity and source improvements. Officials said the plant's PLC (programmable logic controller) — "basically, it's the computer that runs the entire plan. It's the motherboard" — failed on a Sunday, taking systems offline for about six or seven hours until an Aqualogix technician from Syracuse restored service. TAM was placed on standby to backfill holding tanks if necessary.
The board also discussed progress on returning Caisson Well No. 5 in Victory Acres to service, and a finalized treatment-process design with Delaware Engineering. Test borings planned for the north arm to assess a potential spring source will be delayed until spring because low lake levels prevented barges from operating this fall. Officials said the plan is to seek permitting early next year and, if all goes as expected, begin major work by June or July.
