CRA presents FY2025–26 work plan: bus shelters, bridge lighting, innovation walk and resilience grants

Staff presented the CRA’s proposed FY2025–26 work plan, describing new and ongoing projects across Cleveland Avenue, downtown and the MLK redevelopment area. New Cleveland projects include uniform bus shelters, gateway signage and an Edison Mall infrastructure/air-rights study. Downtown proposals include a bridge-lighting study for the Caloosahatchee, Innovation Walk installations (phase 1 in permitting), and a proposed 50/50 commercial grant for pre-/post-storm preparedness with a suggested cap of $50,000 per applicant.
Staff described ongoing downtown maintenance (planter program, street furniture, light poles) and project sequencing: Gateway Gardens expected before summer, first Innovation Walk installation in permitting with a master-plan procurement underway, and underpass improvements at US‑41/MLK and Heitman Street back in scope development. Commissioners raised resilience questions — from matching grants for storm barriers to larger regional infrastructure ideas such as river-mouth barriers — and asked staff to coordinate with the city manager’s resiliency task force. Staff said many projects must comply with the statute and CRA plan and that budget and permitting constraints will determine what can be funded in FY2025–26.
Staff will incorporate commissioner suggestions and return with budget workshop materials and a joint city–CRA workshop where appropriate.
