The district attorney described the "1 Life Only" initiative he launched in 2024 to engage young people in activities that build peer interaction and reduce violence. "The 1 life only program is something that I started in 2024, for purposes of engaging our young people... the whole idea of the program is to improve interaction in the community engagement with each other," he said, noting events in Ellenville High School and a main event planned for September at a county park.
The committee adopted Resolution 402 authorizing the chair to execute an agreement with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services to fund an anti‑violence initiative supporting the district attorney's program and amended the 2026 county budget accordingly. The DA said he preferred prevention: "I would rather prevent the violence than have to prosecute it," and thanked legislators for their support.
