Committee withdraws Axon contract; sheriff's office to run pilot and review alternatives

Captain Storey explained the Axon contract in the packet but said the sheriff's office requested withdrawal to allow time for a pilot and to evaluate a second vendor: "We're gonna withdraw the resolution for 2 reasons. 1, in a couple weeks, we're gonna start a pilot program just to test the services out and, also looking into a 2nd company that offers similar services." The chair accepted the request and formally withdrew Resolution 186.
Committee members were reminded to review the draft AI policy from the sheriff's office in advance of future consideration. Staff said the pilot will give the sheriff's office and legislators time to evaluate expense and operational impacts before bringing a contract back for approval.
