Probation director outlines department operations, training and victim restitution

Director Naccarato told the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Committee the probation department includes six divisions that together provide adult supervision, family court and juvenile services, pretrial work, community service crews, STOP‑DWI programming and crime‑victims assistance. She detailed staffing — "We have 42 sworn peace officers," a clinical supervisor and a mental‑health specialist — and described specialty training such as firearms, defensive tactics, motivational interviewing and interactive journaling.

Naccarato highlighted the department's role in victim restitution and other supports. "We collected over $70,000 in restitution in 2025," she said, adding that those funds were returned to victims and that the department receives only a small 5% surcharge on court orders for processing. She also outlined pretrial work, satellite offices in Saugerties, Ellenville and New Paltz, and programs such as ReadySetWork, restorative justice partnerships and specialized caseloads for domestic violence, DWI and sex‑offender supervision. Committee members followed with questions about staffing, caseloads and data on court appearances, and Naccarato said the office is "almost fully staffed" but has a few current vacancies.
