Staff reported the new wastewater treatment plant is operating and completing punch-list work; a final seal check passed and the plant will be filled and put into service. Operators said they are working through issues with a headworks pump communicator and using backup float systems while staff completes redundancy checks.
On the old plant, staff said they have removed equipment, cleaned tanks and are awaiting DEP direction on decommissioning procedures. The town discussed options including punching holes in tanks so the facility cannot be reused as a dumping or holding station, or preserving the site temporarily if there is potential to sell or repurpose it. Commissioners asked staff to seek DEP guidance and to return with a timeline and options before permanent closure.
