Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Sheehan reviewed the district's 2025–26 LCAP indicators and told the board the district is focusing on aligning English language development standards with ELA instruction and expanding professional development and language-acquisition support for staff.
"Under priority 3, our parent involvement, we've strengthened parent voice through advisory groups like DLAC and student leadership teams, but survey results showing they show increased trust and participation, but we still need to boost engagement for families of English language learners and students with disability and other underrepresented groups," Sheehan said, outlining planned outreach and more flexible meeting formats.
Board members asked whether low engagement could reflect differences in college-track versus vocational interests; Sheehan and others described schedule changes, additional enrichment during a 7th period and targeted bilingual staffing as steps to provide flexibility and support.
The board then unanimously approved the 2025–26 LCAP and separately approved the LCAP Federal Addendum, which the presenter described as the required supplement to receive Title I, Title II and Title IV federal funding and as outlining how those funds support goals for low-income students, English learners and other student groups.
