Coats Board unanimously adds closed session under N.C. statute, reconvenes and adjourns

The Town of Coats Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to add a closed session to the agenda on Dec. 8 under North Carolina law to consult with the town attorney. Commissioner Kelvin Gilbert moved to add the closed session, Commissioner Shirley Allen seconded, and the board approved the addition "To consult with an attorney employed or retained by the public body in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the public body, which privilege is hereby acknowledged."

The board then entered closed session at 6:55 p.m.; the motion to enter was made by Mayor Pro Tem Marc Powell and seconded by Commissioner Monique Warren-Clegg, and the minutes record the action as "Unanimously Approved." The board reconvened in open session at 7:13 p.m., immediately moved to adjourn with a motion by Commissioner Kelvin Gilbert seconded by Commissioner Monique Warren-Clegg, and the meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m. The minutes state no substantive actions from the closed session and were prepared by Finance Director/Town Clerk Connie Lassiter.
