Commissioners approve $26,780 payment to Evergy to relocate power lines ahead of John Brown Road bridge work

County public works staff requested and received approval to pay Evergy Utility Company $26,780.25 to relocate existing overhead power lines near 1525 John Brown Road ahead of a scheduled bridge replacement. The relocation covers about three utility poles that staff said must be moved off the roadway to allow construction staging.
"Evergy had indicated during that process that there is an easement at that location that was signed back in April 1948 that indicated that there is an easement, and they feel that those lines are on easements. So therefore, it'd be our financial responsibility," Jeff told commissioners, explaining the county's obligation. After brief questions about permitting timing, a motion to pay Evergy passed with all commissioners voting yes.
Staff said right-of-way and core permits remain in process and are expected to be received in time for construction later this year.
