Legal counsel and commissioners consider vacant public-defender house as treatment-provider space

Sam Beus, representing county legal counsel and treatment-court interests, told commissioners Jerome County's DUI and drug-court services are on hold because the local treatment provider has shut down and no other providers have stepped forward. "He stated that they are currently on hold because the treatment provider in Jerome County is shut down," Beus said.
Beus asked whether the vacant house formerly used by the public defender's office might be made available to a treatment provider to facilitate re-establishing services locally. Chairman Ben Crouch said commissioners would discuss the proposal and that Sam should arrange for state officials to tour the property to determine suitability. Commissioners and staff said they would follow up on the issue the following week.
No formal agreement or expenditure was authorized at the meeting; the board directed staff to pursue feasibility and coordination with state treatment providers.
