County staff present budget updates; commissioners weigh cuts and raises ahead of final numbers

Tracee said employee-insurance numbers were not yet finalized and that carryover amounts and projected property-tax revenue arriving in the next few weeks will determine whether program cuts or personnel raises are necessary. "In a few weeks she will get a better idea of what money can be carried over from this year's budget and how much the county will be asking from property taxes," Tracee said when summarizing timing for decisions.
Commissioner Ben Crouch asked whether items should be cut now to limit the proposed year-over-year increase; staff replied they would return with more precise figures next week for commissioners to consider before finalizing the budget.
