Carbon County commissioners said on Aug. 6 that a grant‑funded study is under way to assess pedestrian flow and safety in Jim Thorpe's park and to evaluate access points between the parking lot and the train station. The chair told residents the project is a study only and no decisions or votes have been taken on redesigns or vendor relocations.
"The railroad, or more directly, Andy Mueller, is not is not nor is the train station in Jim Thorpe for sale," the chair said emphatically during the meeting (Chair, Speaker 1). Officials said the study was funded in part by a Pocono Mountain grant of approximately $19,000; the consultant will observe pedestrian movement through the fall foliage season with a projected study completion date around March.
Commissioners said the consultant is gathering input and suggested options will return to the board for any decision. They urged residents not to rely on social‑media speculation and to contact commissioners with questions about the study.
