Commissioners say county still owed about $1.2M for Children & Youth after partial state payment

The chair reported that the total owed to the county was $1,945,000 and that an early release of $1,532,216 arrived this year, leaving an outstanding balance of roughly $400,000; however county accounting will direct $750,000 of available funds back to the general fund, leaving an estimated $1,195,000 still owed to the children and youth fund.
"The total that is owed to the county would be $1,945,000. After we went back and forth with the state, we have been able to secure we get the release of our 1st 0.25 statement a little bit earlier this year, which comes in at $1,532,216," the chair said (Chair, Speaker 1). He added that the county will take $750,000 to pay back the general fund and will keep a balance in the Children & Youth account to meet obligations.
Officials said the county continues to monitor cash flow and will keep funds in the Children & Youth account to cover ongoing bills. Commissioners framed the shortfall in the context of broader state budget pressure and concerns about unfunded mandates.
