The Village of Green Island adopted a five-year public housing authority (PHA) plan for the Section 8 housing choice voucher program after a presentation from GEM Inc. at the April 21 meeting. Nancy Williams of GEM Inc. told the board the village currently has 43 housing choice vouchers and 44 people housed, and the program is pausing new applicants while funding uncertainty is resolved.
Williams provided several metrics the board used to evaluate the plan: "You currently have 43 housing choice vouchers," she said, and added the waiting list stands at 144 people. She said 96 inspections were completed last year — 76 passed and 20 failed — and the average gross monthly income for participants is $1,651 with an average subsidy of $628 per family per unit. Following the presentation the board opened the public hearing, received no public comment and voted to adopt the plan by voice vote.
