District facilities staff updated the Granite School District Board on the West Kearns campus demolition and relocation progress.
"They started on the west side and worked their way east…so the demolition contractor is falling right behind the abatement contractor and so we already have, fenced up in areas that are demolished on that very west side of the of the campus," the presenter said, describing a phased abatement and demolition schedule. The presenter added that abatement on the east side is finishing and the demolition contractor will proceed behind it.
Staff said temporary relocations are in place at Oak Bridal with three new relocatable classrooms and five used units set up; state fire inspections cleared the temporary classrooms so teachers could move in. The presenter estimated construction will likely take about 18 months, with occupancy planned for the winter break of 2028 and students returning in January 2029 if the schedule holds.
The board thanked the West Kearns community for cooperating with temporary relocations and asked staff to follow up with a photo update and community notification plans.
