Bethel board approves town-run controlled deer hunt after presentation by Bethel Fish and Game

Frank Romero, representing Bethel Fish and Game, told the board the controlled deer hunt will be open to Bethel residents with a valid hunting license and described volunteer and paperwork procedures. "The controlled deer hunt is open to any Bethel resident with a valid hunting license and in good standings, obviously," Romero said, and he described meeting-day notarized permission slips and a volunteer vetting process.
Romero said the operation aims to reduce local deer pressure and that the state DEP listed a total take of 31 for the season; he recounted recent town results: "Last year, we were able to take, 2 or, sorry, 3 deer from Terre Haute and 2 from Chestnut." Board members asked how junior hunters are handled and were told juniors must be accompanied by a licensed adult and that the group uses Connecticut DEP forms, including a landowner liability release. The board voted to approve the plan on a motion by the chair.
