The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners authorized offering three self-funded health plans through American Health, effective July 1, 2025, to cover active employees and non-Medicare-eligible retirees. The authorization was read during new business and approved by voice vote.
County administrator Nathan said the changes resulted from the county’s long-term self-funding approach and indicated a decrease in insurance costs for employees: "insurance, costs will be going down for employees." The board recorded the motion and moved the plan authorization forward; staff will implement open-enrollment steps and coordinate retiree coverage details.
