Staff said the elevator has ‘‘reached the end of its lifetime’’ and that replacing it is the project's priority to maintain accessibility in the park. Staff also listed potential upgrades to lighting, the sound system and the stage shell, and discussed cleaning and restoring the Port Jackson boat. One staff estimate for elevator replacement was about $250,000; council members asked whether larger or wider elevator options or walkway lighting could be included depending on grant scope and ownership of adjacent infrastructure.
No public speakers came forward, and the council closed the hearing. Officials said they will pursue the CDBG application and prioritize the elevator if grant funds are awarded.
