Council held and closed a public hearing on a $50,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) request to fund preliminary architectural and engineering design and cost estimates for the Route 5 eastbound removal project.
Staff (Dan) described the plan as a first step: preparing designs and cost estimates that would let the city pursue future grants to remove the eastbound lane and reconfigure the corridor to support downtown Amsterdam's growth. ‘‘Wewe're looking to apply for a grant to do some preliminary design, kinda come up with a plan that we can then put forward to apply for money down the road for the actual move pipe removal,’’ Dan said.
The council closed the hearing with no speakers from the public and no changes to the application were offered during the session.
