Council grants easement for Chalmers Public Space boardwalk

The Amsterdam Common Council approved a resolution authorizing an easement to permit the Chalmers Public Space boardwalk to cross property owned by ADA.
Council explained that an easement provides the legal right to cross ADA-owned land to access the boardwalk. A council member said the instrument is ‘‘basically . . . permission’’ to cross the land and that staff reviewed the site and found the arrangement a good fit for the boardwalk project.
Why it matters: the easement formalizes public access and removes legal uncertainty about crossing privately owned land. The measure passed by roll call as part of the day's resolutions.
