Commissioners approve Valparaiso festival requests, debate parking-garage policy

Commissioners also considered a Kiwanis Corn Roast Festival request to use the administration building parking garage on Aug. 8 from 5-10 p.m. Commissioner (S3) moved to approve the Kiwanis request and proposed a $20 parking fee for the event. Commissioner (S4) flagged the need for a county policy on when the garage is opened for free to nonprofit vs. for-profit events, citing repair costs and maintenance of the garage. The board approved the Kiwanis request, the use of the courthouse lawn sign for Labor Day weekend advertising, and adopted the $20 parking fee for the event.
The board asked staff to work with County Administration to develop a clear policy for future requests to use county parking facilities during downtown events.
