Commissioners extend animal control and shelter contracts for multiple towns

The board approved extensions of animal control and animal shelter services contracts for municipalities that had returned signed agreements.
The Chair explained the contracts on the agenda covered the Town of Burns Harbor, the town of Couts, the town of Chesterton, the town of Hebron and the city of Valparaiso. Commissioner (S3) moved to approve the contract extensions for those municipalities; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff and commissioners noted the county could only approve agreements that had been returned signed and that Portagecontracts had not yet been received.
Commissioners questioned timing and return dates; staff noted some extensions take effect at year-end and additional three-year extensions would be returned before budget time. The board approved the extensions that were before them at the meeting.
