Six bids opened for Crown Point CDBG ADA-ramp project; board accepts bids pending review

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on Aug. 5 opened six formal bids for a city Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project to install or repair Americans with Disabilities Act ramps across the city, and accepted the bids pending final legal and engineering review.
Alex, representing the city’s procurement/legal team, read the bid amounts aloud: “The total bid from H3 Concrete is $169,216.65.” He continued through the list, reporting Reeth Riley at $374,831.44; Milestone Contractors at $227,247.36; Davis Concrete at $117,523.00; Gary Up Construction at $194,000.00; and JJ Newell Concrete Contractors at $120,017.38. Mayor presiding over the meeting said the usual practice would be to accept the bids and return with a staff recommendation after review; the board voted to do so.
Why it matters: the CDBG funding (a federal/community block grant administered at the county level every two years) will be applied citywide to ADA ramp installations or repairs where need is demonstrated, staff said. City officials told the board the award will be determined after engineering and legal evaluate responsiveness, scope parity and compliance, and will be brought back for formal award at the Aug. 19 meeting.
The board’s action was limited to accepting the bids for review; no contract award was finalized at the meeting.
