County engineer reports roadwork progress, bridge grant submitted to FHWA

Roman Lutsky, county engineer, updated the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on ongoing road and bridge work and permitting.

“We did start round 2 on the gravels. We got all the best route completed,” Lutsky said, reporting crews are about 50% finished on round‑two graveling and that a culvert was placed on B46 north of Lawler with the goal of reopening that route. He described planned blacktop and pipe work on B33, spot blading in the northeast corner, and follow‑up HMA paving: “It will be graveling those patches until roughly September, October when we fill them with HMA.”

Lutsky also said the county has submitted core engineering and local flood‑plain permits for upcoming projects and that the county submitted a 2026 highway bridge program grant to the Federal Highway Administration; he gave an estimated announcement date of Sept. 14. The engineer noted a contractor change order is likely for a north pier keying deeper into bedrock, estimating an additional $6,000–$8,000 for the extra excavation.

The report included brief updates on equipment and facility work: contract rock placements completed in Division 2, pavement markings done last week, and a progress meeting for the engineer’s office building with concrete and camera counts under discussion. Board members asked clarifying questions and thanked Lutsky for the report.
