Board committee to survey families and Maine districts as it evaluates expanding pre-K

The RSU 18 programming committee reported on exploratory work to consider expanding the district's current half-day pre-K offering.
Committee members said they will distribute two surveys: one to current pre-K families and kindergarten families (including those who did not attend pre-K) to understand family care arrangements and interest in full-day pre-K; and another to other Maine public-school districts to learn how funding, transportation, hours and staffing work for full-day programs. "We currently offer 0.5 day pre k in all of our elementary schools," the committee noted, and principals joined the meeting to share their perspectives. The committee emphasized a commitment to developmentally appropriate practices and will use survey results to guide next steps.
