The council approved a resolution accepting the Lift Station No. 5 preliminary engineer report and authorizing final design and implementation (task order 31).
Public Works Director Chuck Getzeman said the Lift Station 5 work continues a multi-year effort to prevent sewer backups: "With these improvements made, we should see less, backflow into residential housing." Staff described prior pipe bursting that expanded the main line and said remaining work includes improved controls and plumbing modifications. Committee members questioned whether monitoring would alert the city before homes experience backups; staff confirmed the station is tied to the SCADA system that texts crew members when pumps or backups are detected but said the city does not proactively notify homeowners when a station issue occurs.
Council approved the resolution by roll-call vote. City staff said the lift-station work is being coordinated with other high-priority utility projects and that bond packaging may be considered next year if necessary.
