Coats officials sworn in; Kelvin Gilbert elected mayor pro tem, multiple committee appointments made

At its Dec. 11 meeting the Town of Coats Board of Commissioners administered oaths to returning members, elected Kelvin Gilbert as mayor pro tem by a 3–2 vote, and filled several planning, cemetery and recreation committees by ballot.
Mayor Chris Coats and three returning commissioners — Shirley Allen, Monique Warren-Clegg and Todd Pope — were sworn into office Dec. 11 by Whitney Pearce, Harnett County assistant clerk of court. After the oaths, commissioners held a ballot to select a mayor pro tempore; Commissioner Marc Powell declined a nomination and nominated Kelvin Gilbert, who was elected by a 3–2 vote.
The board also adopted its 2026 meeting schedule, set for the second Thursday of each month, and filled multiple advisory seats. By ballot the town appointed Clint Latham and Angela Postma to two expired in-town Planning Board seats and selected members and alternates for the Board of Adjustment and Cemetery and Recreation committees. Commissioners voted by written ballot for the appointments; several named residents received unanimous or near-unanimous support during the roll calls.
