The Harlingen City Commission approved the airport board’s unanimous recommendation to appoint Juan Antonio Nevarez as director of aviation for Valley International Airport. Airport board chair Gallaga described the search process and praised Nevarez’s two decades of airport experience; Nevarez said he has an established working relationship with FAA offices and plans to bring that experience to Harlingen.
"I feel very confident moving forward that I can continue that relationship with [the FAA] and bring that to Harlingen as well," Nevarez said when asked about FAA interactions. The commission voted unanimously to confirm the appointment; Nevarez told the commission his anticipated start date will be the Monday after Labor Day. Commissioners thanked the airport board for the search work and welcomed Nevarez to the community.
