Malibu solar and microgrid projects move forward with contract amendment and early procurement

Austin Toyama said the early purchases enable the district to secure federal investment tax credits and help meet installation timelines: panels were ordered for the hillside system in December 2025 and key energy control center components were ordered in March 2026 to support fall 2027 and winter 2027–28 installation windows.
The contract amendment before the board separates design work into phased DSA submissions (hillside solar, battery, microgrid) and clarifies Schneider Electric's role in designing the energy control center and assisting with interconnection submittals to SoCal Edison. The board approved the amendment and staff said they will return with updates as the projects advance.
