Walker also reviewed the office's first-quarter recordings, staffing and IT needs and proposed converting to Fidlar recording software. Walker told commissioners the new software offers offsite backups across three locations, online access to records, property-fraud alerts and payment-processing services. She said the primary expense is the first-year conversion and asked to use the Register of Deeds tech fund (statutorily funded by $2 from each recording) to cover a $29,500 conversion and to pay recurring annual fees from the office's budget thereafter. The commission approved the use of the tech fund for conversion by a 3-0 vote.
Walker said she had visited Republic County to see the software in operation. Commissioners asked about funding sources and confirmed the fund receives statutory deposits from recording fees. The approval authorizes Walker to proceed with conversion and initial funding arrangements.
