Council approves application to continue opioid recovery work; coordinator role and program results highlighted

Greenwood County Council voted to approve a South Carolina opioid recovery fund application that would continue local programming and the opioid recovery coordinator position supported by opioid‑settlement dollars.
Miss Dorn, who leads the county's CAP stakeholder group, reviewed two years of program activity and results: "In the, October through the most recent October 25 through March, of '26, we had 10 adults that completed some form of detox," she said, and described additional outcomes — about 100 people connected to peer support, 25 to housing, distribution of fentanyl test strips and community overdose response training. Dorn said the county's work includes school prevention pilots and expanded peer support in correctional settings, and stressed the value of continued funding to sustain those services.
Council members praised Dorn's leadership and approved the application; the motion and second were recorded and the vote was unanimous. Staff will return with any follow‑up application materials and continue stakeholder outreach, including a planned National Recovery Month event on Sept. 12.
