Council addresses water billing appeals and recommends drought restrictions

Jefferson Township staff reported two billing issues and recommended steps at the June 10 meeting. Administrator Debi Millikin said a new water meter at 31 Shawnee Parkway (Lerman) produced more accurate readings and recommended reducing excess usage charges to $63.08 per quarter; Council agreed to waive the excess usage. A separate case at 21 Seneca Trail (Perry) involved a winter leak that produced roughly a $5,000 bill; the resident asked to reduce the bill to approximately $240–$249 per quarter and Council agreed to table the matter to June 24 to gather more information.
Millikin also said the State still lists the area in drought, and the Mayor and Administrator recommended implementing water restrictions and read a notice to be advertised. Millikin reported that the water department noted drawdown concerns for the supply system and that the township will publicize the restrictions and convene further discussion as needed.
