The Township Council voted to defeat Ordinance 26-20 on June 10, 2026, which would have vacated a portion of a paper street known as Iowa Avenue adjoining 13 Maine Street (Block 43, Lot 13). The ordinance text stated that public rights in the portion of Iowa Avenue would be extinguished, but utility easements and Township rights to maintain existing utilities would be expressly reserved and excepted.
The measure required the property owner seeking the vacation to reimburse the Township for legal fees, advertising and other costs before the ordinance would become effective. The ordinance was introduced May 20, 2026 and the transcript records it as defeated at the June 10 meeting; no members of the public spoke in favor or against the vacation during the recorded hearing.
