Board approves Westside Racquet Club special exception for phase 1 amid noise, traffic concerns

Kelly McKinley, senior planner, explained that Westside Racquet Club seeks special-exception use and phase 1 site plan approval to restore existing tennis courts and add paddle and pickleball courts, a pool house and parking. McKinley noted Planning & Zoning's unanimous recommendation with an additional condition requiring noise and light mitigation measures to be reviewed as each phase returns to staff.
Vice Chair Moss and several commissioners expressed concern that pickleball can be particularly loud and that the special-exception approval covers all phases even if only phase 1 site plans are before the board now. "Pickleball is is very loud," Moss said, urging strong mitigation and cumulative traffic review. Applicant representative Ryan McClee said mitigation conditions were included and that staff would evaluate noise and lighting phase-by-phase. The board added conditions including cumulative traffic-study requirements across phases and approved the motion unanimously.
