Residents and council members raised a list of maintenance needs at Cassette Park during the Aug. 12 Swisher City Council meeting, pressing the council to clarify who is responsible for repairs and what funds are available.
Patty Herman (Speaker 2) read a detailed item list for the park — pavilion roof and ceiling rot, a nonworking scoreboard, lights out, a gap in the outfield fence and exposed tubing — and urged the city to address safety liabilities. "It's embarrassing, honestly," one council supporter (Speaker 6) said of the park's condition. Council members agreed a joint meeting with Parks & Rec would be a reasonable first step to define responsibility and plan repairs; Speaker 7 said, "I would like to have a joint meeting with Parks and Rec Mhmm." The council asked staff to compile a single, prioritized list of needed work and requested quotes, specifically asking Justin to get a fence repair estimate so the cost can be budgeted.
Why it matters: The park is city property and the council emphasized that, while volunteer efforts can help with some repairs, larger or safety-related projects will require defined budgeting and clear assignment of maintenance responsibilities. The council directed staff to schedule a joint meeting with Parks & Rec and to circulate a consolidated list of items for that meeting.
