CTP recommends regional bus corridors and expanded local routes to improve access to Greensboro

NCDOT staff said the CTP includes transit recommendations aimed at connecting Rockingham County residents to Greensboro for jobs and medical appointments, including proposed regional bus corridors using US 220 and US 29.
"We are recommending a regional bus corridor and this would go from Virginia to NC 80 Or 60 interchange, just to connect, help connect this county to Greensboro," Emily Stepka said, noting feasibility and operator arrangements remain to be determined. Presenters identified several operator models, including private charters, statewide carriers such as Greyhound, or county‑led partnerships.
Commission discussion emphasized coordination with the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART). A commissioner noted PART uses state and federal funds and that the county currently does not directly contribute to PART’s overall funding; the commissioner also said PART provides vanpools and other services and invited interested residents to contact county staff or the PART board.
