Treasurer outlines LED streetlight test, estimates about $400 monthly savings

Treasurer Leslie Cummings told the council the town has begun testing LED streetlight replacements on Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue to determine whether lower-wattage LEDs provide sufficient illumination while saving costs.
Cummings said replacing the town's 200-watt fixtures with 130-watt LED units would save $4.43 per light per month, and replacing 100-watt fixtures with 50-watt LED units would save $2.93 per light per month. The town currently has 126 of the 100-watt lights and eight of the 200-watt lights, which Cummings estimated would yield total monthly savings of around $400 if the switch is made.
The council noted other lighting types exist in the town and said staff will address those after confirming the test results from the current conversions.
