Boards direct staff to proceed with essential short-term repairs at rec center; long-term planning backed

At the close of the aquatics presentation, Commissioner Gardner moved that staff proceed with essential short-term repairs and integrate ongoing repair needs into the CIP and operating budgets. The motion also asked staff to support long-term facility replacement planning and to authorize a broad, options-based feasibility study.
Commissioner Gardner stated the motion: "I'll move to direct staff to proceed with number 1, proceed with essential short term repairs using the approved $600,000 FY 2027 budget allocation and incorporate ongoing repair needs in the future CIP and annual operating budgets." The motion was seconded and the board approved it by voice vote; the town council made a similar motion and passed it unanimously.
The direction to staff includes: (1) proceed with essential short-term repairs already in progress and budgeted portions of FY2027; (2) support long-term replacement planning with a 5–10 year target; and (3) develop a broad options-based scope for an upcoming pool expansion feasibility study. Staff said portions of the immediate repair work are already underway and that additional budget requests (roughly $200,000) will be considered in the next budget cycle.
