Board forwards favorable recommendation to council for M and M Auto Car Care use variance

The Dyer Board of Zoning Appeals voted to present a favorable recommendation to the town council for a use variance that would permit M and M Auto Car Care to operate as a major vehicle repair service in the Sheffield Main Overlay District.
Josh Penley, civil engineering consultant for the applicant, told the board M and M has operated at 1225–1227 Sheffield for more than two decades in a legal nonconforming status. "M and M has been operating a successful auto body repair shop at this location for over 2 decades and would like to make some investments at the site to expand their business capability and make significant, visual enhancements," Penley said. Staff confirmed the use-variance recommendation will be forwarded to the town council, which typically addresses such referrals at its next meeting.
A board member moved to provide a favorable recommendation to council for the use variance; the motion was seconded and the transcript records board members saying "Aye." Staff noted the council will take up the recommendation at its next meeting (the third Thursday in August). The motion recorded in the transcript moves only the use variance recommendation; development-standard variances were discussed separately.
