County moves forward with CARES UP training, NYS recruitment ads and ALS MOU with WYEMS
Summary
Wyoming County approved a $7,700 contract for a CARES UP training event with Strykersville Volunteer Fire Company, authorized recruitment signage and billboard advertising funded by a NYS recruitment grant, and recorded an MOU with Wyoming County EMS to sponsor ALS courses at no cost to the county through June 30, 2029.
The Public Safety Committee on July 2 authorized a contract with Strykersville Volunteer Fire Company not to exceed $7,700 to host a CARES UP training event (effective June 1–Dec. 31, 2026). Planning anticipates roughly 150 first responders and volunteers and about 50 vendors; funding will be offset by the CARES UP grant.
Members also noted FYI professional service contracts for recruitment and retention signs (Image Out, up to $400) and a billboard campaign with LAMAR (up to $2,500), both to be paid from the NYS Recruitment and Retention Grant. Separately the committee recorded a memorandum of understanding with Wyoming County EMS to maintain Advanced Life Support course sponsorship with the NYS Department of Health (effective July 1, 2026–June 30, 2029) to provide original and recertification training at no cost to the county.
