The council approved a purchase request of $83,800 for new playground equipment at Watsiana Park after a presentation by Parks and Recreation Director Veil Yoder (speaker 11).
Yoder described a year-long outreach process including community surveys and multiple vendor proposals; the park board selected a design combining preferred elements and returned the best quality-price option. “We put out a survey on Facebook to all the residents... this was a clear number 1 was just playground space areas in general,” (Veil Yoder, speaker 11). Council members voiced support; staff noted some existing equipment will be removed as unsafe. The purchase is allocated in the FY26 budget and will proceed as approved.
The decision followed the park board’s recommendation and is intended to expand safe playground use at Watsiana Park.
