Council authorizes City Hall key-card system and lease addendum if tenant opts out

IT Director Brenda Nelson told council the city's physical-key system causes delays and maintenance costs and proposed a card-reader access system for the west entrance and parking-lot doorway, integrated with cameras and the city's existing badges. The city's share of the quoted cost is $11,949.98; the third-floor tenant's one-time portion is $15,299.99, Nelson said.
"It is going to not just keep an audit and a log with the information of whose card key badge was used, but it would also have that visual from that camera," Nelson said when asked about after-hours logs. Council discussed badge compatibility, incremental implementation and a five-year warranty; members expressed support for the approach and approved a motion to allow the city manager or mayor to sign the updated quote and to direct staff and legal counsel to draft a lease addendum if the tenant chooses a different vendor. Vote was adopted 4-0.
