Representative Jeff Holcomb presented a $1,350,000 state appropriation to the Brooksville City Council on Aug. 3, telling council members the funding includes $600,000 for the Barnett Road DRA project and $750,000 for sidewalks in the city.
"I got them approved and signed by the governor," Holcomb said, noting the awards came after a challenging budget process that included significant line-item vetoes. Melissa Atkinson of Reuben Turnbull summarized the session, saying the final fiscal package was approved in a June special session and that Brooksville's priorities were preserved.
Mayor Tanner and other council members thanked Holcomb and the Reuben Turnbull team for advocacy, noting the projects address recurring flooding and pedestrian-safety concerns. Atkinson added context on the session: lawmakers filed about 1,900 bills this year, 236 passed, and 228 were signed by the governor; a property-tax reform constitutional amendment will appear on the November ballot and requires 60% voter approval to pass.
Council did not take action on the presentation itself; Holcomb, Atkinson and other officials posed for a photo after the recognition.
